Staying Fit at Work is Possible!

Like Rihanna says, “Work, work, work, work, work.” These days it may seem like all we do is work and we can sometimes forget about our health in the process. But while you may think it is impossible to stay fit and healthy with a busy work schedule, it is actually possible!

Here are a few ways you can stay fit during business hours:

Switch out junk food for healthy snacks

Instead of going to the vending machine for a snack while you are at work, try bringing healthy snacks instead like fruits or nuts. Though it may be easier to grab candy or junk food as a quick snack, it can do harmful things to your body. The amount of added sugar in junk food like candy bars or cakes can lead to obesity and increase the risk of chronic diseases like diabetes.

Drink more water

This sounds simple but drinking water has a ton of health benefits that you may be missing out on while at work because you are reaching for coffee or something sweet like soda or juice for an extra boost. Besides quenching your thirst, water helps to control your calorie intake, prevents dehydration, and energizes your muscles. It is essential for your body to function properly and is an important part of your diet. So instead of reaching for something with caffeine, drink a bottle of water!

Work differently

You don’t always have to just sit at a desk all day when you are working. In fact, sitting for long periods of time is not good for your back, posture, or blood circulation. Trying something different like standing desks or sitting on a workout ball can be great for your health without hindering your workflow. Trying these other options while working has been shown to improve your posture, strengthen your core muscles, and make you feel more energized and active while at work.

Take the stairs

Who wants to take the stairs when you are in a rush to get to your office right? But the extra two to three minutes that it might take to walk up the stairs can give you health benefits that you definitely won’t get from an elevator! If you can do so, choose the stairs instead of waiting for an elevator for the great health benefits you will get for your heart and legs!

Take a walk

Instead of sitting at your desk for lunch, why not take the opportunity to get some fresh air and take a nice walk. Researchers have found that walking just 10 minutes per day can help prevent fatty liver problems from progressing. Walking can provide you a ton of health benefits and one study has suggested that walking can lead to a longer life span.

Living a healthy lifestyle means being healthy even while you are at work. Making small changes during your work hours can provide you with immense health benefits that will leave you feeling great! Just remember it is important to understand your health so that you can make better decisions for a happier, healthier lifestyle.
